A friend of mine came to visit me, early in a vacation that consisted of driving around to see different things over a couple of weeks. The last few days of his journey were going to depend on whether the last launch of the space shuttle was expected to happen on time or not a few days out (it was two or three days' drive to see it, so he had to decide a few days before.) One phrase kept popping up as we discussed his prospective journey, and the day after he left, I wrote a song about it.
